Questions on Monitoring Indicators

What do the current and the relevant area size refer to?

01.04.2010
The relevant area is the surface in km² WHICH IS TO BE covered by a specific geodata set. The current or actual area is the surface in km² WHICH IS covered by a specific geodata set, the question being the completeness of the respective dataset, that is for instance, if a dataset shall comprise all nature protection areas of Hesse, the relevant area corresponds to the area of the Land (state) of Hesse. If the dataset comprises indeed all nature protection areas in Hesse, the current area, too, corresponds to the area of the state of Hesse and the indicator lies at 100 %. The current and the relevant area sizes are taken as a reference for computing the indicators serving the purpose of monitoring the degree of geographical coverage of a dataset.

What size is assumed as relevant area for geodata sets exceeding the territory of Germany, for instance by the inclusion of the Ausschließliche Wirtschaftszone (AWZ) (Exclusive Economic Zone)?

20.08.2010
The actual or relevant area size according to Article 5 (3) of the Resolution on Monitoring and Reporting can exceed the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany, but can comprise maximally the area where a member state has and/or exercises jurisdictional rights.
